Nicaragua

This initiative started in 1999 the aim being to contribute annually to support the Christian Aid water project for Nicaragua. Since then members of the group together have given £12,000 to Christian Aid. Currently the group consists of 10 people who receive plastic bags for their spare cash, which is collected and counted quarterly. The number in the group has fallen in recent years and new members would be welcome.  An annual report and cheque are sent to Christian Aid and over the years several presentations have been made during St Paul’s eucharist services. In recent years the Christian Aid emphasis in Nicaragua has widened beyond the water project to support for poor farmers. This aims to encourage farming methods, to introduce cash crops and to provide routes to the markets. Such an endeavour to improve living standards has been welcomed by the St  Paul’s group in its continuing support for Christian Aid.
